- There is a quarry at Arklow Rock. It is called Parnell's Quarry because Charles S. Parnell owned it one time. Blue stone is got in the quarry. This stone was used for making sets: some of it was put on roads. There was great demand, even in England for the stone. There was an engine and crusher at work in the quarry. the stones that went on the roads were crushed by the crusher. The sets used for building purposes and for street paving were made by hand. When the quarry was being worked the noise of the crusher could be heard all day: it was deafening.
Horses and carts used to draw the stones to the station. Some carts went to the Quay with loads for vessels going to England. There used to be streams of carts on the road every day.
The Quarry was closed down because no orders were got for the stones. Some cart loads of chippings are got in the Quarry still: the chippings are put on roads.- Bailitheoir
