   In the Summer people churn about four times a week and in the Winter about twice.

   There are many kinds of churns nowadays but in olden times the best known type was the dash-churn. The kind of churn which is at home is the dash-churn. It is about four feet in height and about two feet wide. It is worked by a dash which is kept moving up and down. In Summer churning is done twice or three times every week, but in Winter it is done less frequently. It is an old custom that if a person goes into a house where churning is going on he should take part in it. If the person does not take part in it the people of the house would say that he
