  1. There are two fairy forts in this district. They are called raths. One of them is situated in Rathshanmore and the other in Rathcott. There is a little ditch around them and 'sceacs' growing on it. It is believed that fairy people lived in them. Here is a story I heard about one of these fairy raths.
One day a man went out to level a rath that was on his land. At dinner time as he thought his wife came with his dinner to them. He ate it and then the woman went away and he started to work again. In a few minutes the same woman came with the dinner again. He asked her where she was going the second time, wasn't he after eating his dinner. His wife replied that she wasn't there before. It was a fairy woman that brought him his dinner the first time. The man got sick that night and died.
