  1. An Old Song (continued)

Of vale and rock around Glendalough, and friends that dwell amoung in other days in simple praise

    (continued from previous page)
    Within Poultandrum's wave
Tho' friends were near who loved him dear
His life they could not save.
    (III)

Ah comrade fast of days now past
Oh why was Fate so cruel
How often o'er those rocks asthore
    You played around that pool
We little thought t'would be our lot
    To see that gloomy hour
They brought you home a corpse mo bhrón
    Your life beyond our power

    (IV)
In death he sleeps but memory keeps
Its vigil ever true we mourn our loss but bear our cross
    Our prayers assend for you
Then add not tears to woman's fears
    A mother's heart hard wrung
Pray heavens gate admit his soul
    Gods Holy Will be done
