    In other days in simple praise
    With happy heart I've sung
    But not tonight such lines I write
    For sorrow's pall is spread
    The wild ochóne is now the tone
    A comrade dear is dead.

    'Twas close tonight, the 29th
    A sultry eve in June
    Ninteen nought eight - we mark the date
    Young Fortune met his doom
    He went to bathe beneath the shade
