About sixty years ago bowling was a favourite sport in Drumphea a townsland a mile and a half from this school in which the church is situated. On every Sunday eveing in the summer time about one hundred people assembled at the church gates to watch the bowling. The best bowlers were Peter Doyle, then Principal Teacher in our school, and Matthew Doyle, a farmer living in Milltown on adjoining townsland. Challenges were given and accepted and the Drumphea bowlers were nearly always victorious.
Cricket was also a favourite game in Drumphea , some of the best cricket players of the County coming from Rathnageera.
