  1. The following are some of the marriage customs in this district-:
Marriages are celebrated at different times of the year but generally at Shrove. In this district Shrove is called "Sheraft." No marriages are celebrated in the month of May as it is considered an unlucky month. People generally get married on a Wednesday. as there is an old rhyme about the days of the week-:
    "Monday for health.
    Tuesday for wealth.
Wednesday the best day of all.
    Thursday for losses.
    Friday for crosses.
    Saturday no luck at all."
Matches are made in this district and the person who makes them is called a matchmaker. Money is given as a dowry but in olden times farms of land and stock used to be given as a part of the dowry. In olden times the marriage used to be held in the house of the bride but that is not done now people are married early in the morning. In later years there used to be a wedding held in the brides house before the marriage and then in the evening those to be married would drive in cars to the chapel and be married and when they would come back they would continue on the wedding.
