  2. The people had an old custom for making some marks on the bread long ago. They used make every kind of marks on the cakes such as crosses, diamonds and little squares. Protestants make two strokes and Catholics makes a cross on the cakes. Then they would get a knife and run it down through it a couple of times.

  3. The name of the vessel in which the bread was baked in was a baker and the pan or a griddle.
