- In this locality people suffered in the time of the Famine. They were depending mostly on the potato crop but this crop was destroyed with blight. On this account many people perished.They died on the roadsides, from hunger, they died in the fields, and they died in all sorts of places. If a person was going along the road, he would meet people cold, delicate, and hungry, from want of food. Some of them might be dead. They missed the potato crop very much. The blight came on the leaves and showed itself in black spots, and then the potatoes got black and they rotted in the ground.The people then had no crops only the wheat crop and that wasn't very good either : it got blighted too. So that is why so many perished in that particular period.
- During the years of '46 and '47 this locality suffered more from hunger than at any other period. It is told of strong men dropping dead(continues on next page)
