  1. About 100 years ago a girl named Peggy Furlong, Glynn, Co. Wexford candles out of rushes.
    First she used to gather a bundle rushes. Then she used to peel them.
    Some time after that she used to dry them. Then she used to dip them into new-made grease and leave them out to get hard. When the candle got hard it was finished. A good long candle would burn for about an hour.
