   About 100 years ago a girl named Peggy Furlong, Glynn, Co. Wexford candles out of rushes.

   First she used to gather a bundle rushes. Then she used to peel them.
   Some time after that she used to dry them. Then she used to dip them into new-made grease and leave them out to get hard. When the candle got hard it was finished. A good long candle would burn for about an hour.

   Mrs Anne Walshe, Sparrowsland, Bree, Co. Wexford was very good for making candles. She made them out of bees' wax and the wick she used was a cord She shaped them by cutting the out of a round piece of wood and using it as a mould. She put a piece of cord in the mould first She melted the wax and poured
