- About 50 years ago football matches were played in O'Briens field beside the present school-house in Murrintown. The matches were played for seven Sundays in succession. In one of these matches, Killmannon played against Castebridge. The matches were played roughly and the men often kicked each other instead of the ball. There were fifteen men on each team. A famous game played between Kllmannon and Castlebridge was never finished. The best remember me non the Killmannon team were Rochford, Sinnott and Simpson.Murrintown never had any special team of its own but often played with Piercestown to which parish it belongs. The football was big and made of leather with a rubber ball filled with air inside it.Four goalposts were used, two parts at the top of the field and two at the end.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
