  1. There was an old woman who lived in Ballykerogue a long time ago. She was a witch and she had great magic power.
    It is said that she could stop a pair of horses working in a field many miles from where she lived
    One day a man was working in a field under the hill of Slive-Coillte and the witch tried to stop his horses but she could not. It was afterwards found out that the man had a harnes made from a hazel stick.
    When she died the priests would not allow her body to be buried in consecrated ground so she was buried on the ditch which divides Ballykerogue church
