  1. There was a man named Barney Hughes well known in the parish of Killoe. He was going to the fair of Longford with geese. His wife was along with him. When they came to a certain place a thing in the shape of a dog walked along with him. His wife never saw anything. Every piece of the road they went the dog grew bigger and bigger until he was as big as Barney himself. When they came to a big gateway the dog turned in on it and disappeared and they never saw him again.
