   there was a drift 5 or 6 feet high across the road. It was impossible for any body to travel across it. It effected the people very much. They could not get going to the shop for their goods.
   It effected birds very much. A lot of (people) them died of cold and hunger
   There was some heavy thunderstorms but they did not effect the district.

   The great famine affected the district very much. This district was thickly populated at that time. The potatoes decayed in the ground when the blight came on the stalks. The people got a relief of a cwt or two of seed potatoes for the following year. The government relief reached this district. The people got indian meal called "the poor meal". They got from a stone up per week according to the number of the family. The government started public works to give a living to some people. Such as road
