Tanning leatherAbout forty perches from this school on the Ballynacargy road there lived a man about thirty years ago. He was called the Tanner Lyons because he used to prepare the skins of beasts for rugs and even for boots and shoes/
The park then held hundreds of deer and the tanner often got a deer skin which used to prepare and keep soft by some secret. Goat skins and sheep skins used to be treated for rugs and cow and calf hide for boots and clogs. His sons were not able to coax the secret from him.- Collector
