  1. I live in the house called Fairy Hall, in the townland of Joanstown, in the Parish of Rathowen, Co. West Meath and in the barony of Moy Goish. There are twelve families in the townland. The families most common in this district are; Cox's, Mangan's, Masterson's, Murray's and Dardis's. Mr Frank Murray's of Rathaspick is a two story thatched house and Cox's of Rathowen. All the two storey houses are mostly slated. Houses were more numerous round this district in former times some of the people died that used to live in them and others went away to foreign countries. There are two rivers and two lakes. Lough Glen is west and the Black River rises in it and flows a long distance until it reaches Lough Iron then the Inny River
