  1. In the time when teaching was banned in Ireland. One of the King Harman's in Roscommon having erected a beautiful gate an entrance to his demense and being very proud of his Estate he had carried in stone over the Gate. What cannot men and money do King Harmon happened to have a Brooked Nose and so along came one of the then Teachers of Hedge Schools here and seeing the Inscription over the Gate he took a chalk and wrote in under it.
All the men and money from Galway to Naas could not straighten the Nose on King Harman's Face.
