- There is a pan of gold hidden in Cauran pond. Once a man yoked two horses and a chain to it he pulled it out on the land, and when he did so a big fish like an eel came out bit the chain and the pan dropped in. It was placed there by the monks who had a monastery in Cauran long ago, because at that time there were bands of soldiers going around Ireland called Cromwells soldiers they were destroying churches and monasterys and that is why the monks did so.
