    it was said that St. Brigid visited every house on that night.
    At Christmas holly is put in the windows of the houses and around on the walls to decorate the house. This is an old pagan custom. Holly is an evergreen plant, on which red berries grow.
    Another custom still practised in this district is dressing the "May Bush". On the eve of this feast the children gather wild flowers, such as primroses, cowslips, violets and daisies. Then they get a hawthorn branch and tie on bunches of flowers to the branches of the little bush. When this is done the stick the "May Bush" into the hedge near the house. On Palm Sunday, Palm is distributed at the local church. Every person gets a little sprig of palm
