    Here is a list of some of the tools used in the forge : - a bellows, hammer, sledge-hammer, a "buffer" or punch, an anvil and a trough. He uses a big trough and a small one and both are filled with water.
    When he has the shoe made he puts it in the big trough and before he puts it on the horse's hoof he cools it in the small trough. In the forge there is only one fireplace which is left on stone flags. When the fire dies down he has only to blow the bellows and it lights up. Horses and asses are shod by the local smith and sometimes he makes gates and wheels of carts.
