    if we call him "Roddy"
When we want to get shoes on the mare we bring her to the local forge where the blacksmith takes off the worn shoes and puts on new iron ones. When he takes off the old shoes he pares the hoof and then he reddens the shoe and puts it on the hoof to see is it the proper size. When this is done he will nail it to the hoof.
