    locality people cut the turf at the end of April or in May. About twenty miles from here there is a factory for making peat briquettes, only a few people use them in this district and we know very little about them

  2. About forty years ago oaten bread was mostly used in this locality. The oats was grown on the farms and was ground or milled in the local mill. There were three or four mills in a radius of two miles from the district. The oaten meal was mixed with water and made into a solid mass. Then it was placed before the fire and baked against the sod or stone on the hearth,
    When our parents were young boxty or stampy was also used. It was made from potatoes. The potatoes were cleaned well and grated. Then the pulp was squeezed in a coarse cloth and what remained in the cloth was mixed with a little flour. Then it was baked on a griddle and while fresh it was eaten with butter.
