  1. Some years ago a man was taking a "short cut" home at night. His way lay across a big field. It was winter and snow had fallen heavily but the night was dark.
    All at once a bell tinkled just beside him and he stood still in wonder. He could see nothing but could hear a strange rushing sound.
    He walked on again and at one time the bell sounded on one direction and again seemed to move towards another side. He started to run, still the bell continued to tinkle and to move about the field. He reached home and was glad to find himself safe inside his own front door again but he imagined he could hear the
