  1. In parts of Ireland up to the present day there are emblems kept from a certain day in the year to that day twelve months, such as water from a holy well, the Irish people believed in cures from such.
    At Christmas people always decorated their houses with holly and ivy from Christmas eve to the 6th of January, a great coloured candle was lighted in the window, but the candle custom is more or less gone out of use.
