    a person knew when the churning was finished by lifting up the dash, and if the tiny pieces of butter have gathered round it, it is finished.
    Nowadays a barrel churn is used in nearly every home, this is used by turning a handle round, there is a small piece of glass set in the lid and when the churning is finished this becomes clear.
    The butter is gathered together and taken out of the churn with a cop. (a small wooden vessel)

    The most common churn seen in this district is the dash churn.
    It is round in shape like a barrel, the diameter of both top and bottom is about two or three feet
