    Writing was with a slate pencil upon a slate. The children were arranged in rows. There was no blackboard. Instead there was a big slate. The teachers remained about a month or so in each house.

  2. Long ago the people were not allowed to send their children to school. They had Hedge- schools.
    In this district they had a Hedge- School near Foilduff on the top of a hill. It was an outhouse owned by a man named Pat Kennedy . All the children went there. The
