    I composed a verse so nice
    I knew I'd have no trouble
    In bringing off the prize.

    I handed up my rhyme next day
    and the master read it through
    Next morning from his pocket
    a white half crown he drew.

    "You're worthy of the prize he said
    As he handed me the coin
    "The others are not bad I know
    But your's is simply fine"

    I hurried home that evening
    With the money in my coat
