  1. I
I am a little beggar man and begging Ive been
For three score and more in this little Isle of Green
I'm known from the Liffey down to the Secuce (recte Segue)
Shure I'm known by the name of old John'y Dhu.
    II
Of all the trades going shure begging is the best
For when a man is tired he can sit down and rest
He can beg for his dinner he has nothing else to do
And cut around the corner with his old rad-a-doo.
    III
I slept in the barn down a cur-a-lan
shure a wet night and all I slept until dawn
Whith holes in the roof and the rain coming through
And the rats and the cats they were playing pick - a boo
    IV
Who did I waken but the women of the house
