The walls were about six or eight feet high with a very low thatched roof. The walls were made of mud with the hair of animals mixed through it to keep it together. It had to be well mixed for fear it would fall assunder when it dried. The thatch was made from wheaten straw adn ofter from the reed that grew near the sea. The houses of the poorer people consisted of one room and a kitchen. There was a bed in kitchen which was called a settle-bed. This was a seat by day and a bed by night.
