    On Ash Wednesday it is an old custom to go to the chapel to get blessed ashes.
    It is the beginning of lent and people make a sacrifice on that day; they fast and abstain. They also abstain from some things they like very much for the forty days of lent. Men abstain from drink and smoking and children from sweets.
