  1. Fairs were insituted many years ago and probably derived the name from the word Fete or Bazaar ancient festivals that were held in several places in Eireann in the past. One which was of special interest to the people of this district was that of Knockainey where a great Fete or fair was held in the reign of Queen Ainey. Athleticle events, amusements, and festivities were carried on there and lasted for several days and it is much to be regretted that this old Knockainey cattle fair probably the oldest in
