    Lord Roche was a nobleman who lived at Old Castletown near Kildorrery at the time that the White Knight lived here.

    It seems that these two often fought, and once Roche was taken prisoner and kept here at the castle. The castle at that time was surrounded by a great high stone wall and there was an enclosed yard or space of some sort with a very light timber gate to it.
    The White Knight had a very wild horse called "Wild Garret". Nobody could ride their horse. One day while Roche was prisoner they had "Wild Garret" in their enclosed space and man after man tried to ride but all failed.
    Roche from his prison watched the proceedings and when all had failed he asked to be allowed to have a try. At first the White Knight would not listen to him, but at last he was persuaded by Roche and was allowed to ride. He succeeded in keeping his seat. He trotted round the
