- Tobacco, pipes and snuff were distibuted then but now there is only snuff given. Two candles were brought lighting to the car in which the coffin was taken to the graveyard, from the wake house and preceding the coffin.
It was customary to take off the screws from the lid and lay them on the coffin when in the grave.
Some were laid out in their own clothes, others in a habit.
