    Two men lost their lives in a thunderstorm in August 1909
    Both were natives of Bally[?] and were saving hay. Lightning killed them, and horse and dray were also destroyed.
    During the big storm of 1839. several incidents occurred:- The steeple of Burly was blown down. A woman named Hill in this parish was looking for the old age pension, and the only record she had of her age was that she was born on this night [?] "Big Wind"
    Her mother's house was blown away. The lives of the baby and mother were saved by a [?].

  2. About eighty years ago there was an old school in Newtown, a townland on the border of Gallally and Knocklong parishes. It was situated on a by-road. The walls were made of mud and it had a thatched roof.
    Twenty-five pupils (about) attended daily.
    The teacher got lodging in a different house each night. He went to the house of one of his pupils as a rule.
