    the floor. The minute the man with the toothache saw that, he forgot everything but to save his feet from the live coals, and made a jump to do so. If he did, he snapped the tooth clean out of his mouth.

  2. The Goban Saor.
    The Goban Saor and his son were going on some business one day, and the Goban said to the son. "Shorten the journey, can't you?". "How can I shorten the journey", says the son, "And you knowing the way?". "Go home", says the Goban, "You'll' never be anything but a browl, I can make nothing out of you".
    With that the son turned home, and the Goban sat down to rest himself. As they hadn't gone very far the son was not long until he got home again.
    "Aidhe",says the wife, for the son was married this time, "Aidhe ,and what happened you to come back to me so soon?". "Oshe, leave me alone ",says the garlach, "But 'tis the quare man of a father I have; Do you know what he wanted me to do, to shorten the road, and I not knowing but the length of it".
    "Is that all", says the wife, and with that she told him several stories and "Hurry now", says she, "And when you keep up to your father
