  2. Cartown:
    The townland of Cartown derives its name from Ballycarrie it was so called in the 17th century the origin of the name is not known. This name was found in a map 3 hundred years old.
    Mellon:
    Mellon is a corruption of Mullans as it was called two hundred years ago. The name is derived from its low bare hills, portion of the townland is called monastuccaun derived from bog and the redwing a migratory bird resembling the thrush which the people called stuccaun. Another portion of Mellon is named Purth a portion touches the Maigue, it may have got its name from the shelfish known as the crab. The proper name of Mellon point is Rinekirk, as it was a promontory before the embankments near it were built.
