  1. In the year 1837 there was situated in the vicinity of Curraheen an indoor hedge-school, with a thatched roof. About twenty or thirty scholars attended it every day. A woman named Mrs. Brown resides there at present. It was all English language that was spoken in it.
In the townland of Old Kildimo, in the year 1845 there was another hedge-school. It had forty five scholars attending it and a man named Mr. Sheehy who dwelt in that locality was teaching in it.
