    Joan Grogan lived near the village of Athea about eighty years ago and was thought to have extraordinary knowledge of coming events and of curing sick persons.

    "The Aherne's of Lurga could not make any butter for a year, so they brought Joan Grogan and she told them who was taking it and how they were taking it. She went to the churn and showed them a peg that was driven in at the bottom of it by some of the neighbours when they lent it to him, and while that peg stayed there no buter could be made. So they took out the peg and put another in and from that day out they had plenty butter."
