twelve when the girl set out for home. When she was passing O'Hara's lane in Killeline she heard the cry of people, the lashing of whips and the noise of a horse and car. She was so frightened that she jumped in over a ditch until it was gone. Then she came out on the road and looked after the vehecile. She saw a hearse drawn by two headless horses and two headless drivers with whips in their hands. Inside in the hearse there were scores of people screaming and roaring for all their worth. When the girl reached home she fell in the door in a weakness when her sick mother saw her she survived from her illness and the girl was in bed for months after.
