- Long ago hides used to be tanned in a house by the bank of the Sean-Abha in Castlelyons, Co. Cork.Two smiths who lived in Castlelyons long long ago used to make ploughs, gates, spades and shovels.
- John Carter was a basket-maker and cradle-maker. He lived in a little house in Ballyoran, Castlelyons, Co. Cork. He was succeeded by his son, his grandson, and his great-grandson is at present working away making baskets in a cottage in Ballyoran.(continues on next page)
