  1. A whistle is made out of a piece of bamboo stick. A hole is cut in the stick and the pith is taken out and a small piece of stick is put in at the bottom and another piece in the top.
    Baskets are made from rushes that grow on the bank of the river.
    Crosses are made from bullrushes.
    Riding whips are made by plaiting bull-rushes and then binding them with more bullrushes
    A ghost is made out of a turnip. Pare the turnip like a man's face, put bits of matches for teeth.
    Sweets are made out of sugar and butter. Put them in a saucepan over the fire and mix them. When they are cool again it is just the same as toffee.
