  1. A man by the name of William Phipps who now lives in Glenville Co. Cork. was a great runner. In his young days when he was in America he ran in the 100 yds. World Championship Final. All the Irish in America had him backed to win the race. Before the race he was bribed by the bookmakers and as the amount of money he would get from the bookmakers for losing the race was greater than what he would get to win the race decided to lose it. The people of America were angry and he had to leave the country.
