    parishes turned out one Sunday after Second Mass to witness the great contest. The place selected was mid-way between the two villages. There were no rules governing the game in those days; each side could muster as many as it wished, and strange to say there was no referee.
    Roughly speaking, about one hundred young men composed the Freemount team, and the Dromina contingent numbered more or less. The ball was put in motion and then the scrimmage began. What-ever side would take the ball to its own parish would be the winners.
