    by one of his spies. When the farmer went to pay his rent the next time, he was told that he could afford to pay more, and accordingly the rent was raised for the following year. Some of the farmers were very clever ; they usually wore very bad clothes, and had always a 'poor mouth' The gaps leading into field were not provided with gates, instead, these gaps were built up with loose stones, and strange to say this practice is still followed by many of our local farmers to-day.
