  1. In this district there are many old ruins. Among them may be mentioned Mourne abbey Castle and Church ruins. These are the remains of a large town which was burned by Murchad Na dToiteán Murca of the Burnings. Near the Church is a graveyard where people are buried within the walls.
Dronineen Castle stands on the banks of the Blackwater. It was once the stronghold of Cromwell's soldiers. Not far from Ahadallane Creamery is a large dwelling once the Barrack of Donoughmore. Lohert Castle was once the property of Sir Timothy O Brien and now belongs to Mr Mc Cabe.
