The dye was made from Lus na gCloch which was found growing on rocks. The "lus" was picked off and boiled. It made a kind of mustard colour (wet mustard). Garment that were to be dyed black or brown were done with the lus na gcloc first. ""Diamond Dyes were used here 50 and 60 years ago. If garments dyed were not dark enough they were dyed again with more lus.
