    About four miles from Clonakilty there is a place called Muckross in the townland of Ardfield.

    About four miles from Clonakilty there is a place called Muckross in the townland of Ardfield. There is big Barytes mine which was used long ago. There is a passage leading under the land and sea.
    Crockery and paint were made from the Barytes.
    Hundreds of men used to work down the mine. One night one of the men left lighting coals down in the mine, the roof caught fire and all the men were roasted to death.

    Clonakilty attended to them.
    and all the towns people went out to see the fire, but any of the men were not saved.
