    Great cyclist
    Jack Barnes formerly of Closgregg, Thomastown was Ireland's cycling champion in his time. He never lost a race in which he competed it is said.
    Noted swimmer
    Patrick Dooly Rosbercon, New Ross was a noted swimmer, and a great life saver. He saved lives in Ireland, England, and America. He saved a life in the Barrow at New Ross and his arm was dislocated at that time.
