  1. In olden times the people used be almost young men and women before they wore boots. It used be a big day in the life of a country boy when he had to go to the shoemaker to "lay his measure. Boots were very dear at that time. Many stories are told about people when they got new boots. One day three children from the country were carrying their boots under their arms. One of them broke the nail of her toe off a stone she said "I am glad she said I had not my boots on me because I might lose a nail out of them.
