May Day Customs (continued)
“It is a custom in every Catholic home to erect an altar of flowers and candles in honour of The Mother of God.”
(continued from previous page)some time ago but alas all those good old customs are dying out as the older generation pass away and in all probability will fade and die.It is unlucky for anyone to ask anything from you. If you give milk to anybody on that day there will be no butter from the milk for the rest of the month. In the morning before you light the fire, you should burn a bunch of rowan tree. No ashes should be thrown out on May morning, but, a branch of a furze tree should be over the door and may flowers should be scattered on the threshold.- Collector
